Women, Infant & Children (WIC) Nutrition Services

Women, Infant, and Children program provides an electronic card to purchase healthy foods, health care referrals, breastfeeding support and eating tips. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or who have just had a baby and children up to age 5 are eligible for the program.

Assessment to Determine Eligibility


Income and medical/nutrition risks:
Nutrition and medical assessment eligibility include:
  

  • Medical history
  • Anthropometrics - weights and heights
  • Lab test - Hematocrit screening (a finger stick is required)
  • Income eligibility- adjunctively income eligible if anyone receives FNS (food stamps), Medicaid and/or TANF (Work First) or meets income criteria based on gross income and number in family

  • Age appropriate and condition appropriate nutrition education
  • Elemental and medical formulas for infants, children and women
  • Folic acid education
  • Food Storage and safety
  • Immunizations
  • Lead
  • Picky eaters
  • Anemia

  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
  • Under/overweight, slow weight gain
